Why You Should Always Schedule A Mold Test Before Buying A Home

When you purchase you are making a very large investment. Not only are you making a financial investment, but you are also making an investment in your future. There is nothing worse than spending hundreds of thousands on a new home, only to discover that there is significant mold damage. Before purchasing any home, there are a number of inspections that you can schedule in order to ensure you are making a smart investment. One that people often overlook is having a mold inspection.

Why You Need A Mold Inspection

There are a number of reasons why you should schedule a mold inspection including:

Mold is a serious health risk. The most common illnesses caused by mold are allergies and asthma. Mold can also lead to toxic mold syndrome and is especially dangerous for people with weakened immune systems like the elderly, children, and the disabled.

Mold is very damaging to the home. Mold eats cellulose which is found in most of the materials used to construct a home. After a time, mold can cause so much damage that a home can collapse.

Mold inspectors inspect the entire home, oftentimes looking under carpets, behind walls, and in the ceiling rafters. They will also look for any signs of excessive moisture or water which are early indicators that a home is at risk for mold. Once they complete their inspection, they will provide a full report of their findings and make recommendations on how to remediate the situation.

What To Do If The Inspector Finds Mold

If the inspector finds mold, you do have a couple of options. You can move on and look for a different home to purchase for your family. However, if you really love the home, you can have the mold fully remediated. What’s good about professional remediation is that it doesn’t just remove the existing mold, it addresses the larger cause of the mold and repairs any existing mold caused damage. If the home has professional remediation, it will be safe to purchase.
